The clouds continued to hang low today as we made our way back to Bergen. The scenery however continued to be beautiful.  Our travels were interrupted more than once due to live stock crossings  We stopped in a little town called Byrkjelo to recharge our car and came upon this sculpture garden. Our final ferry ride - # 15

Friday - Alesund

It seems the heat wave in Norway has come to an end. The clouds are very low and temps in the 60’s.  Today was a short drive to the charming town of Alesund.  It is thought to be one of Norway’s prettiest towns due to the devastating fire of 1904 that forced this fishing settlement to rebuild from scratch. 10 000 people were left homeless. Now the town is internationally renowned for its art nouveau architecture.  The “Boy Fisherman” an apprentice in the trade that allowed this settlement to thrive.  “The Herring Wife”  The Bridal suite of the local hotel 😳. There is a do not disturb the honeymooners sign on the door 😂 Some of the older homes on the edge of town that survived the fire.  The miracle Walde house; This house is the only one that remained standing amongst the ashes. Thursday - the Trollstigen Pass through “ Troll road)

Image
This morning we headed out for our next destination Andalsnes. We took Ferry #13 and continued on to the Trollstigen pass through “Troll Country” which is one of the more scenic routes in Norway The morning calm after the storms Leaving Geiranger the small town in the distance, at the end of the fjord. Boathouses near the ferry An old church established in 1863 Yeah! We found fresh strawberries at a roadside stand.  Up past the tree line again Looking down at the “Troll ladder” a famous unforgettable twisty stretch of road that corkscrews 11 hairpin turns, it passes sheer rock faces and more waterfalls.  One of the stops along the way. The water is crystal clear.   The individually placed “guard stones” 😳 Once we arrived at our hotel we took the local gondola up to take in more majestic scenery.
