Friday - Alesund

It seems the heat wave in Norway has come to an end. The clouds are very low and temps in the 60’s.

Today was a short drive to the charming town of Alesund.  It is thought to be one of Norway’s prettiest towns due to the devastating fire of 1904 that forced this fishing settlement to rebuild from scratch. 10 000 people were left homeless. Now the town is internationally renowned for its art nouveau architecture.

The “Boy Fisherman” an apprentice in the trade that allowed this settlement to thrive.

“The Herring Wife”

The Bridal suite of the local hotel 😳. There is a do not disturb the honeymooners sign on the door 😂

Some of the older homes on the edge of town that survived the fire.

The miracle Walde house; This house is the only one that remained standing amongst the ashes. The owner of the house was visited by an angel the day before and was promised that his home would be spared.

The view from or room tonight. Tomorrow will be another ferry to start our journey. Feeling so grateful for all of the beautiful sunny days we had.
