Turku

Today after a leisurely morning we left by bus for the city of Turku which will be our starting point for our cycling- the gateway to the archipelago. We spent the afternoon touring the city with a guide, learning more about the history and culture.

Statue in the city library. They allow all to check books regardless of citizenship, even homeless are welcome. Reading is extremely important, a good activity for long cold winters.
For many years the Finish language was only spoken. This was the man who 500 years ago wrote the first Finnish alphabet and translated the Bible into their written word.

Notice the big plastic ducks in the river, they are placed each spring after the thaw as a sign of spring.

After our tour we found a lovely beer garden and enjoyed the warm weather and some of the local fare for dinner.
